Nashua, NH – August 20, 2001 – Gambit Communications, a leading network simulation tools provider, today announced the release of MIMIC™ Simulator 5.10. With the goal of constantly building upon and improving the management simulation experience, MIMIC 5.10 offers expanded features and increased processing speed, especially when simulating a large numbers of devices. It provides an inexpensive way for enterprises to evaluate management applications and policy scripts prior to deployment; to conduct and practice disaster preparedness and recovery scenarios; to provide operator training; and to plan for future infrastructure growth.
“With MIMIC 5.10, Gambit offers a comprehensive management solution for network engineers in the enterprise environment,” explained Pankaj Shah, Vice President of Marketing of Gambit Communications. “Additional protocol support, such as Telnet, allows MIMIC to more fully simulate real devices. Enterprises and service provides will now be able to conduct more thorough evaluations. This will significantly increase their ROI, because they will have more extensive and productive testing labs without the need to buy and maintain additional network devices.”
MIMIC supports SNMPv1, v2, v2c and v3, and DHCP, TFTP and ToD, which also provide Cable Modem Simulation capabilities. Some of the new features in MIMIC 5.10 include:
· Telnet support for communicating through command line interfaces. This will provide initial support for Cisco IOS®.
· Performance enhancement for large scalability testing.
· Timer scripts for individual agents for better control.
· Perl API, to support the popular test environment language.
· Diagnostic Wizard, which collects diagnostic information for problem reports.
· Action scripts on INFORM response and timeout, an important SNMPv3 feature.
MIMIC provides an inexpensive way for enterprises, device vendors, management software developers and outsourcers to demo, test, develop, train and certify management applications without purchasing equipment and maintaining labs for those functions. MIMIC has the ability to simulate up to 10,000 devices from one workstation. MIMIC simulations can be distributed over multiple platforms for enterprise simulation testing of even larger environments. MIMIC includes user-friendly wizards for importing new MIBs, recording large networks, creating device simulations and network topologies, and provides full support for SNMP(v1, v2, v3), DHCP and TFTP, as well as RMON(1, 2).
Founded in 1995, Gambit Communications is a leader in network simulation tools that enhance the productivity of management software developers and enterprise users while lowering their costs.
