MIMIC(tm) network equipment simulation software as its choice tool for rapid prototyping and testing in all phases of ISR's OSSnet network management software development life-cycle. ISR's OSSnet Application Framework provides out-of-the-box management of telecom equipment using JAVA-based GUIs over a CORBA backbone. Gambit's MIMIC has the capability to simulate from one to one thousand network hardware devices-such as hubs, switches, and SNMP agents. With MIMIC, ISR can verify through simulation that its OSSnet Application Framework will effectively manage disparate technologies such as ATM, AIN, Wireless, WDM, and SONET. Using MIMIC, ISR saves expensive time and effort testing and setting up its customers' network configurations-and its customers save valuable time and effort evaluating ISR's products. According to Ed Draiss, ISR sales application engineer, "We're very excited about what MIMIC has done for our development efforts--and what it will do for our customers. MIMIC absolutely simulates real life experiences on both small and large scales. With MIMIC, we can help our customers set up network policies and verify them before our OSSnet Application Framework software even reaches their site. It makes our products even more "out-of-the-box" than we thought they could be." ISR began using MIMIC on a small scale and provided feedback to Gambit to help fine-tune MIMIC's capabilities. Pankaj Shah, Gambit's vice president of marketing, says that ISR's telecom experience and network expertise helped them improve MIMIC to simulate the rigorous demands of telecom networks. ISR then began using the software at tradeshows to demonstrate its own products' capabilities. "It's just great for tradeshows. We can load MIMIC on a simple laptop and eliminate all the hardware devices we use to have to lug around. Yet, we can simulate a full-size network and demonstrate the true capabilities of our own OSSnet products, " says Draiss. "MIMIC allows us to emulate so many different hardware devices that we can simulate an entire network environment in very little time. Before MIMIC, we had to fabricate a mini-network with actual hardware for each of our tests. The small scale of the sample always left us with some concern over whether satisfactory results would necessarily occur when implemented for our customers on a real network. With MIMIC, that's no longer a problem," says Mark Poidomani, VP of Engineering, "We know how it will work before it ever gets to our customers. So our customers are up and running fast." Formed in 1995, Gambit Communications, Inc. develops and markets network management support tools that enable effective, high-quality enterprise-wide network management solutions. They are headquartered in Nashua, New Hampshire. More information is available at their web site: www.gambitcomm.com. Founded in 1991, ISR Global Telecom develops, markets, and supports object-oriented, client-service software for network operation support of complex business and mission- critical networks. Equipment manufacturers and service providers can rapidly and cost-effectively respond to changing markets and complex network requirements. ISR-generated applications are designed, developed, and deployed significantly faster than those built with competitive products. ISR also provides professional services for custom integration and support projects. For more information, see www.isrglobal.com ###
