FOR RELEASE September 19, 2000 Contact: Patricia Chrystycz Gambit Communications, Inc. 978-921-0492 chrystycz@gambitcomm.com Computer Associates Chooses Gambit's MIMIC to Power Sales and Training European Group Uses SNMP Simulator to Curb Costs Nashua, NH - September 19, 2000 - Computer Associates announced today the selection of the MIMIC SNMP Agent Simulator from Gambit Communications for use in their Virtual Business Center. MIMIC will enable sales associates and network consultants in the facility to easily demonstrate Computer Associates' advanced network and systems management software, including NetworkIT and CA-TNG Network Options. "Creating networks to properly demonstrate the capabilities of these advanced software tools is an expensive proposition," said Raymond Peeters, Marketing Manager for Computer Associates Belgium. "MIMIC allows us to demonstrate our software with minimal hardware and lab overhead expense - allowing us to show how Computer Associates’ tools manage the Ebackbone at Espeed." In addition to using MIMIC as a sales tool, Computer Associates is using MIMIC in the training facility. As in the Virtual Business Center, MIMIC simulates any SNMP-manageable device - from internetworking gear to desktop systems - allowing the management software to function exactly as it would in a live environment. MIMIC has allowed Computer Associates to reduce its capital needs for hardware, lab space, and lab administration. In the training facility, students experience additional benefits of MIMIC - each student has the opportunity to learn Computer Associates' software in personal, virtual labs. Each student has access to MIMIC's SNMP simulation power and can experiment with complex management commands without impacting the lab equipment used by other students. In addition, the students are able to experience simulated situations, which give them real-world management experience without the associated risks and expense. "We are pleased that Computer Associates is furthering their relationship with Gambit Communications by using MIMIC's SNMP agent simulation capabilities in such innovative ways," said Pankaj Shah, CEO of Gambit Communications. "Computer Associates already has experience using MIMIC in the software engineering environment for test and development tasks. Now, MIMIC will allow them to build and simulate any type of network that is needed in their showroom or classrooms." About MIMIC: MIMIC provides an inexpensive way for enterprises, device vendors, management software developers, and outsourcers to demo, test, develop, train and certify SNMP-based management applications without purchasing equipment and maintaining labs for those functions. MIMIC has the ability to simulate up to 10,000 SNMP-based devices from one workstation. MIMIC simulations can be distributed over multiple platforms for enterprise simulation testing of even larger environments. It includes user-friendly wizards for importing new MIBs, recording large networks, creating device simulations and network topologies, and provides full support for SNMP v1, v2, and v3 as well as RMON1 and RMON2. MIMIC's over 100 customers include Nortel, Cisco, Computer Associates, HP, IBM, Riversoft, MCI, Lucent, Marconi, Alcatel, Quallaby, Veritas, InfoVista, Fujitsu, Intel, and Ericsson. About Gambit: Founded in 1995, Gambit Communications, Inc. is the leader in providing SNMP-based network management tools that enhance the productivity of network management developers and enterprise users while lowering their costs. Gambit's SNMP agent simulation tool, MIMIC, records SNMP agents, then "plays back" simulations for use in applications from development and testing to operator training and disaster simulations.
